Lived Experience Peer Practioner

Celebrating Lived Experience at Holistic Circle

At Holistic Circle, we take immense pride in having Lina as our Lived Experience Peer Practitioner. Her unique blend of professional expertise in the mental health sector and her personal insights into the profound effects of both public and private systems on those living with mental health conditions is invaluable. Lina understands the complexities of these systems and adeptly assists caregivers and individuals on their own healing journeys.

Lina’s commitment extends beyond her professional role; she has volunteered as a crisis support worker with Lifeline, providing compassionate, non-judgmental support to individuals during their most vulnerable moments. On the phone, she has encountered a multitude of crises—ranging from loneliness and grief to rural hardship and a broad spectrum of mental health challenges—often requiring deeper support and intervention. Her experience as a Youth Employment Mentor in the Western suburbs of Melbourne further enriched her understanding of the difficulties faced by young people. She witnessed the devastating impact of COVID-19 on those aged 15–24, observing a significant rise in anxiety, social awkwardness, and struggles with self-expression. With empathy and unwavering dedication, she has worked tirelessly to support and guide them through these challenges, recognizing the profound ways the pandemic has reshaped their well-being and sense of connection.

What truly sets Lina apart is her extraordinary ability to look beyond labels, diagnoses, or titles. She embraces her own experiences without apology, sharing her journey openly and authentically. By honoring each person’s unique story, she fosters an environment of respect and understanding. Lina’s voice resonates widely as she shares her lived experience at GP conferences, health forums, student sessions, and community events across Queensland, continuing to do so at the request of many. (For more information, you can find Lina on LinkedIn; please see “Contact Us.”)

Lina’s message is powerful and clear: mental health does not define who you are. She is heartened to see “Lived Experience” increasingly recognized as a vital aspect of the mental health landscape. Reflecting on her own journey, she recalls a time when the path forward seemed obscured and the absence of positive role models left her feeling as though she had no value.

The mission of a Lived Experience Practitioner is both straightforward and transformative: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. At Holistic Circle, we are proud to champion this mission and share it passionately with our community.
